Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has endured a very tough 12 months.
When you look back on Mason Mount‘s tough start at Manchester United, it is important to note his troubles did not begin at Old Trafford.
Mount missed the last few months of last season with Chelsea through injury, a campaign in which he had struggled for form.
The £55 million United paid for him was based on past success, and perhaps potential, rather than the player he was in 2022/23.

Mason Mount’s tough start at United
Moving to Manchester United was seen as the fresh start Mason Mount needed, but instead it has been a continuation of the end of last season at Chelsea.
His body has not held up, suffering two separate injuries. And when he has been fit, he has either not fitted well into the Manchester United team, or he has been on the bench.
He has not played at all since last November, and updates on his injury from the club have been lacking in detail, or preciseness, when it comes to a potential return date.
So it is good to see some development there, with Mount himself providing an update.
Mason Mount update
Mason Mount has posted to Instagram to offer an update on his fitness.
He showed a picture where he is working hard indoors at Carrington, with a one word caption: “Progress”.
Mount’s message was followed by two replies from high profile colleagues for Manchester United and England.
United captain Bruno Fernandes responded: “Almost there”.
While England colleague and Mount’s former Chelsea academy pal Declan Rice wrote: “What a sight”.

Mount will still likely be a few weeks away, and realistically, we don’t expect to see him take to the pitch before the international break in late March.
This might set up the Premier League game against Liverpool in early April as a possible return date. That is something for Mount to aim for.
