Manchester United received an unexpected boost when Mason Mount was pictured back in training.

It would be wrong to say Mason Mount has been badly missed at Manchester United during his four-month injury lay-off, because that would imply he made a contribution in the first place.

Mount simply has not got started at Manchester United, suffering two different spells out injured, and struggling for form and tactical fit when he did play, and wasn’t overlooked for selection.

Nevertheless, United made a huge commitment to the England international last summer by paying £55 million for him, and handing him the club’s coveted number seven shirt.

Mason Mount returns to training

Mason Mount returned to training for Manchester United on Tuesday, seemingly taking part in a full session as opposed to just individual work.

While we would be surprised if he had any meaningful involvement against Liverpool this coming weekend, likely saved for after the international break, it is good to see him back.

Mount has not played a game since early November away at Fulham, as a substitute, and he will be relieved to see light at the end of a tunnel, to hopefully get some game time between now and the end of the season.

Seeing him back on the pitches at Carrington is a welcome sight, and Mount has now spoken out.

Mason Mount sends message

Mason Mount sent a message out on Instagram, expressing his happiness at making his return to action.

Mount wrote: “Happy to be back on the grass and with the team!”

He received encouraging messages from three Manchester United teammates, Antony, Harry Maguire and club captain Bruno Fernandes, who all showed how pleased they were to see him back.
