Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount made his return to action in Manchester United’s incredible win over Liverpool.

Big money signing Mason Mount has endured a bit of a nightmare since moving to Manchester United in 2023.

The £55 million man has been out of action with injuries for most of the campaign. His last appearance had come back in November, prior to his return to training early last week.

Mount was named on the bench in the FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool, and was brought on with the game in extra-time.

Mason Mount sends a message

Mason Mount was on the pitch as Manchester United clinched a dramatic winner, with Amad scoring in the 120th minute.

Mount played the final 15 minutes of extra time, with his biggest contribution being running back to execute a perfectly timed tackle.

He only had three touches in total, struggling to get into the game, but simply being on the pitch was a big step forward for him.

We might have been set to see Mount take a penalty if the game had gone to a shootout, however, Amad’s late goal meant this was not needed.

Mount sent a message out on Instagram following the win, showing his passion with an emotional celebration on display.

He wrote: “This is what it means to be a part of this team! Can’t wait for the next one!”

Manchester United and England teammate Harry Maguire gave Mount his backing, with a simple response.

The centre-back wrote excitedly: “He’s back”.

What Erik ten Hag said about Mason Mount

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag gave his backing to Mason Mount, speaking ahead of the game.

Ten Hag explained: “He didn’t have a chance to prove this point, but he will be a very good player for Manchester United.

“It’s really unfortunate, it’s really disappointing for him but also for us when you have such a class player in your middle, and you can’t play him.

“He had three injuries as we all know, so he didn’t any time get in a rhythm”

This hopefully will now be a turning point. There is a game against Mount’s former club Chelsea on the horizon in early April, where he will be keen to make a contribution.

“But I’m sure when he is fit and he plays he will get into that rhythm and he will contribute to a successful Manchester United, I’m sure.”
