Manchester United have defeated Liverpool 4-3 in a remarkable FA Cup quarter-final tie.
It was a sensational match for Manchester United in which they showed their best and worst and somehow emerged victorious.
Scott McTominay claimed an early lead but a strong first-half display was ruined when Erik ten Hag’s side’s continued failings once again haunted them as two goals in three minutes from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah turned things around.
United were poor for most of the second 45 until the manager’s changes gave the side an added impetus and Antony levelled things late on to send the game to extra-time.
An extraordinary added 30 minutes saw Harvey Elliott give Liverpool the lead but United fought back once more through Marcus Rashford and Amad grabbed a last-gasp winner.
Here’s how the players rated in a whirlwind match and historic win.

Andre Onana – 7
Continues to impress with a series of fine saves, especially from Darwin Nunez, and confident claims. Can’t be blamed for any of the goals as he was beaten by two unfortunate deflections and could do nothing about a rebound after making a great stop.
Diogo Dalot – 6
Defended well against the ticky Luis Diaz who troubled Manchester City so much a week ago, with little danger coming down his side. Was a threat going forward late on, too.
Raphael Varane – 5
Wasn’t alert to the danger of Mohamed Salah after Nunez’s shot was saved, staying in the net instead of getting out to try and make a block. A difficult afternoon against the Uruguayan.
Victor Lindelof – 6
A couple of good blocks in the first half but positioning was really poor for Salah’s goal, leaving Nunez in loads of space to shoot. Was very lucky Nunez missed a chance in the second half after he misread a pass and allowed him through.
However, actually got better after moving to left-back and got forward well. Went close to scoring.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7
Despite playing on his weaker side in his first game in months, Wan-Bissaka got forward really well and posed a threat with his link-up play. Made several good challenges and interceptions, too. Kept Salah quiet for the most part but unfamiliarity with the left side did leave a gap for the leveller to be created.
Scott McTominay – 7
A mixed performance with crucial contributions. Got into good attacking areas, especially when he pounced on the loose ball to give his side the lead and did the same to set up Rashford’s equaliser.
However, throughout the 90 minutes, McTominay continues not to offer enough defensively or in possession. Is his goal threat worth constantly being overrun in midfield, affording quality players acres of space and having no control of the ball? It was in this match but maybe not forever.
Kobbie Mainoo – 8
Excellent play in the opening minute, driving through Liverpool’s press and creating a good chance. It set the tone for a great display. Mainoo repeatedly won the ball back in good areas, set United away with nice distribution and was tireless in tracking back.
United’s best player in normal time and received a well-earned standing ovation when he was taken off late on.
Aleandro Garnacho – 8
What a performance from start to finish in which he directly led to three of the four goals.
A tireless attacking threat right until the 120th minute when he set up the dramatic winning goal. A gutsy, quality display from a man who is quickly becoming United’s most important forward.
Bruno Fernandes –7
Worked hard and played some lovely passes but needed to be stronger when dispossessed for Salah’s goal. Fortunate not to be sent off after a mistimed challenge on Dominik Szoboszlai when already booked.
Deserves credit for a selfless display in extra time when he played left-back and then centre-back due to Ten Hag’s attacking subs.
Marcus Rashford – 6
So much more confidence going forward on the left with some nice interplay and through balls for his fellow forwards. However, his defending against Jarell Quansah, who brushed past him with ease for the equaliser, was very poor.
Missed two incredible chances, one to win the game with the last kick of normal time, but then scored a lovely equaliser and nearly set up a winner for McTominay with a superb pass. Did well not to let the miss bring him down.
Rasmus Hojlund – 4
Squandered a great opportunity when he took a moment to look up rather than shoot and then slipped on the ball. Quiet otherwise in a hard first game back from injury against Virgil van Dijk and taken off in the 70th minute.
Substitutes
Antony – 6
After doing nothing for 16 minutes after his introduction, Antony somehow managed to squirm a shot into the bottom corner to level things up. He helped make the goal and did very well to turn and shoot. Maybe there is hope for him yet.
Harry Maguire – 7
A composed defensive display on his return from injury. Gave United a real threat in attacking areas and nearly scored, too.
Christian Eriksen – 5
Some decent passes in the middle.
Amad – 7
Worked very hard and found a last-minute winner to complete an incredible comeback. Was sent off for his celebration after taking his shirt off.
Mason Mount – 5
Mount came on for the final 15 minutes of extra time for his first game since November but didn’t see much of the ball.
