Marcel Sabitzer comments on Marcus Rashford form for Manchester United

Manchester United loan signing Marcel Sabitzer has made a positive early impression since signing for the club on deadline day.

The Austria international has looked assured in midfield, putting in confident and capable displays in two rivalry matches against Leeds, as well as an impressive cameo against Crystal Palace on his debut.

Sabitzer is settling in well, despite an upcoming suspension in the Europa League first leg. He has told how he is happy at the club so far.

Speaking to the club website he praised manager Erik ten Hag, and in-form forward Marcus Rashford, who cannot stop scoring.

Sabitzer on his start at United

Marcus Rashford has scored three goals in his last three games, netting in each of the matches Sabitzer has scored in.

The loan signing is appreciative of his new teammate, commenting: “He is a great guy, a great player and he’s helping us a lot at the moment.”

The 28-year-old also commended Erik ten Hag, and expressed an openness to consider joining the club on a permanent basis.

Sabitzer said: “He’s good, he’s talking to me a lot about what he’s expecting from me, so I’ll try to fulfil that. I’m feeling good and I’m liking it here so far.”

“It’s a loan and that’s all I can say [about that] at the moment. What I can say is I’m feeling very good here, I like the team, I like the club, I like the atmosphere at Old Trafford… so we will see what happens in the summer.”

A report from ESPN last week reported Manchester United will weigh up a move for Sabitzer permanently in the summer. The club are said to have advised him it is an option.

This certainly gives Sabitzer motivation to want to succeed, dangling the incentive of a permanent deal. It is too early to take a view either way right now, but his strong start at the club certainly means a long-term move is very much in play.

United are yet to play Sabitzer alongside star man Casemiro, due to suspensions, and then late in the season, it will be interesting to see how he figures when Christian Eriksen is fit again.

There is a lot to achieve between now and the end of May, and if Sabitzer can play a role in trophy success, the club will certainly look more favourably towards a deal.
