Manchester United’s strongest XI with Casemiro

Casemiro was unveiled as a Manchester United player this week at OId Trafford before the win over Liverpool.

United’s players showed their best selves, brushing off a poor start to the campaign to rally to a memorable result against a team who have enjoyed a stretch of superiority in recent meetings.

Competition for places is suddenly high, with manager Erik ten Hag making a number of bold, brave calls which paid off.

Now with Casemiro soon set to join his teammates, its an apt time to look at what might be Manchester United’s best XI with the new signing.

Manchester United’s strongest XI with Casemiro

Manchester United’s strongest XI with Casemiro may soon change beyond this current iteration. More new signings are expected before the deadline, and this team will continue to evolve.

Goalkeeper: David de Gea is a goalkeeper with his flaws, who is overpaid, and may not be the long-term solution. Let’s see if he is still United’s best option after the transfer deadline.

Defence: Erik ten Hag made big calls against Liverpool, dropping Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire. Both England internationals will have their say, but for now, it looks like Manchester United’s best back four may be without them both.

New signings Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez were excellent and fully deserve to keep their place. If Raphael Varane is fit, he should be Martinez’s partner at the back. They worked well against Liverpool and deserve more time together. Diogo Dalot is currently United’s best right-back option until an alternative is signed to compete.

Midfield: Casemiro will slot into United’s defensive midfield role, filling a position which has been a void for far too long.

While he didn’t start against Liverpool, Fred should get the nod alongside him. There’s a case to pick Christian Eriksen here, he did well in midweek. Donny van de Beek will also get chances. But Fred’s experience playing alongside Casemiro for Brazil gives him a leg up. The pair have an impressive record together which United should try to replicate.

Bruno Fernandes would complete the three man midfield. Casemiro will help him a lot, and if he plays with the passion and fight he did in midweek, the goals and assists will return to his game again too. He will likely continue to captain the team with Maguire out of the side.

Attack: This is the area of this United XI which is most likely to change in the coming days, with Ajax winger Antony linked with joining.

Crucially, Cristiano Ronaldo is not part of the front three. Manchester United’s attack currently appears more integrated and in sync when Anthony Martial is leading the line.

Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford make up the front three with Martial, for now they are United’s best trio, who will now hope to replicate the form they showed in pre-season.
