Manchester United have suffered an injury blow ahead of the derby against Manchester City this weekend.

Diogo Dalot was forced off in the first half of the Carabao Cup tie against Charlton Athletic.

Dalot went down in the 34th minute and went straight down the tunnel after being substituted.

The substitution may simply have been a precaution ahead of the derby, however, there is little recovery time ahead of Sunday’s game.

Dalot injured against Charlton

Dalot has just returned from an injury sustained at the World Cup with Portugal, which kept him out of Manchester United’s late December matches.

This was one of the reasons he was selected for the game with Charlton, with Erik ten Hag looking to build up his fitness and sharpness ahead of the derby.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka came on to replace him, with Manchester United leading 1-0 through an Antony goal.

Wan-Bissaka played well in Dalot’s absence in December and has rediscovered his confidence, winning the faith of Erik ten Hag.

There is a chance he could be called upon against Manchester City at the weekend, and United likely won’t provide a full diagnosis on Dalot’s fitness until Friday’s press conference.
