Manchester United stars urge Joshua Zirkzee to stay, already a popular figure in the dressing room

Several Manchester United players face uncertain futures at Old Trafford which could make for a busy January transfer window.

Ineos have been introducing cost-cutting methods across the board at Manchester United, including 250 redundancies, and it’s no secret that the first-team contains some players with futures elsewhere.

That’s why United could be ruthless this month if appropriate offers are made for players.

Christian Eriksen’s contract will expire at the end of the season and Casemiro is among the club’s top earners, despite being 32-years-old and past his best.

Others like Antony have flopped at Old Trafford, which means the Brazilian’s market value has dropped significantly. There are also issues with Marcus Rashford after the United academy graduate revealed he is ready for a new challenge.

The list of players who could leave United in 2025 contains more names, and Ruben Amorim has yet to add any players to the squad Erik ten Hag left behind.

Joshua Zirkzee advised to stay at Manchester United

One player often linked with a move away from United is Joshua Zirkzee.

The 23-year-old Netherlands international joined United from Bologna in the summer and has scored four goals in 28 games, with just three of those goals coming in the Premier League.

It’s not the start Zirkzee wanted and to make matters worse, he was jeered by sections at Old Trafford during United’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.

However, Zirkzee received a warm reception from United’s away support at Anfield on Sunday.

Now, Zirkzee’s United teammates are urging him to stay and fight for his future at the club.

According to talkSPORT, Zirkzee is a popular figure in the dressing room and he is being urged not to give up on his United dream by senior colleagues.

Zirkzee’s popularity with fans will only rise with goals and strong performances. It’s important to acknowledge that this is his first season in the Premier League.

Zirkzee is not being forced out of United in January and he turns out to be a popular figure, with fellow United stars keen to see him succeed in the red shirt.

Amorim wants to keep Zirkzee in his squad rather than lose him during the January transfer window, especially if the club aren’t prepared to sign another forward to replace him.

“I want to keep Josh because he gives everything and he’s trying in training but we don’t know,” Amorim told talkSPORT, as quoted by the official Manchester United website.

“The window is open and we will see what happens. We just need to focus on training and to take this for the other games.

“It’s just one point, so let’s focus on the performance for the next games.”

United are already light in the striker department as it is…

Zirkzee made a late cameo appearance for United against Liverpool after replacing striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Surely it’s too early to throw the towel in on his United career.
