Manchester United supporters were treated to a much-improved performance against Liverpool.

After four successive losses to end the year, Manchester United fans were drained of optimism for Sunday afternoon’s trip to Anfield.

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool were heavy favourites having built a lead at the top of the Premier League table, but United upset the odds to draw 2-2 on Merseyside.

Lisandro Martinez scored his first goal of the season to give United the lead, and Amad Diallo continued his remarkable run of form by netting an equaliser late on.

Despite the snowy conditions, United fans turned up in numbers at Anfield and were quick to show their support for Joshua Zirkzee.

Joshua Zirkzee has struggled to settle at Man United

United opened their summer transfer business by signing Zirkzee for £36m from Bologna.

Everything looked to be going according to plan when Zirkzee scored on his debut against Fulham, but he then endured a dry patch and his confidence clearly took a hit.

The Dutch forward hit a new low point when Zirkzee was hooked by Amorim in the first half of the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United last week.

Zirkzee ran straight down the tunnel at Old Trafford before sheepishly returning to the bench minutes later.

Amorim apologised to Zirkzee after the full-time whistle, insisting that he had to change something because the team was “suffering”.

What Man United fans chanted towards Joshua Zirkzee

Despite being booed off the pitch against Newcastle by his own fans, Zirkzee clapped supporters at Old Trafford after the Newcastle defeat.

Against Liverpool, United fans made sure that Zirkzee felt the support of the fanbase by directing a chant towards him while warming up on the sidelines.

As reported by Laurie Whitwell, the travelling United fans chanted “Ooh, Joshua Zirkzee” in the 32nd minute of the clash against Liverpool.

Zirkzee, who was introduced as a substitute in the second half to a warm reception, waved to the fans. After the full-time whistle, United repeated the same chant to Zirkzee as headed back to the dressing room.

A real show of class by the United fans.
