Manchester United are back to winning ways against Burnley – but many were left unimpressed by star who didn’t exactly deserve to start.
A Bruno Fernandes volley gave United the victory at Turf Moor. It was a much-needed boost for Erik ten Hag’s men, who have thus far succumbed to a pretty poor 23/24 campaign.
There were a few individuals who shone brightly. Hannibal Mejbri once again took his chance after being given a start, as did the veteran centre-half Jonny Evans. They were both fantastic.
But one player who was given a lifeline following his performance against Bayern Munich did not perform well.
Scott McTominay did himself no favours against Burnley
When Erik ten Hag picked the team sheet last night – there were more than a few surprising names.
Evans and Mejbri were amongst them – but one that stood out to many was Scott McTominay.
The Scotsman was heavily scrutinized vs Bayern Munich for one moment of madness, which led many to believe he would remain out of the frame for a lot of the season.
Described as the ‘luckiest guy in football’ after Wednesday by Mark Goldbridge. He certainly didn’t justify the decision last night.
McTominay wasn’t great
Scott McTominay is a really strange player for Manchester United.
Last night he was pretty bad once again. Often looked uninterested, made many stray passes and overall just wasn’t up to scratch.
He is an absolute colossus when playing for his country. He’s a leader, goalscorer and plays with his heart on his sleeve. So why doesn’t he the 26-year-old do the same for Manchester United?
There is a player there, no doubt – which is why even the likes of Bayern Munich were sniffing around him in the summer, but he just doesn’t seem to be cutting the mustard at the moment.
