Manchester United fans are all saying the same thing about Scott McTominay following United’s loss against Bayern last night.
Erik ten Hag’s first outing in the Champions League was one to forget. Despite scoring three goals at the ever-intimidating Allianz Arena – United were seriously poor.
Many individuals produced shocking all-round performances, but it’s one specific moment from a substitute that has got United fans tiled up.
This was Scott McTominay – who came on for Christian Eriksen in the 68th minute. He did something ten minutes later which infuriated the entire fanbase.

McTominay moment of madness
As shown from the video below, around ten minutes after coming on, McTominay loses the ball to Dayot Upamecano and makes absolutely no effort whatsoever to track back.
Instead, despite having fresh legs, he left the task to Bruno Fernandes – who had to bust a gut to get back.
This has really hit a nerve with some fans.
Fans react to McTominay not tracking back
It’s safe to say some Red Devils weren’t best pleased with the Scotsman.
“This is disgusting from McTominay”, one wrote. “Loses the ball in a dangerous area after being on the pitch for just 5 minutes, but no motivation whatsoever to chase down Upamecano who’s been on the pitch the whole game. He did the same against Brighton. Embarrassing.”
Another said: “This moment was genuinely a shocker. McTominay had been on for 10 minutes, lost the ball and had zero intensity to track Upamecano. You know who got back to tackle? Bruno, and he was the furthest forward when Scott lost the ball. The physical side is the strongest part of Scott’s game.”
Another added probably the most telling comment of all, “The most surprising thing about that McTominay clip doing the rounds is that people are actually surprised by it.”.
The out-of-favour midfielder did himself no favours last night. Not only has he seemingly lost touch with the manager, but now he’s lost the fanbase who were crying out to give him a chance following excellent performances for Scotland.
It’s going to be a tough road back into the good books for Scott.
