Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes is Mr Consistent at international level, and according to data, the best in Europe.

The Euro 2024 qualifying group stages are now complete, and no team dominated their group quite like Portugal.

Coming off an underwhelming World Cup, Portugal changed manager and took a bet on a coach who had an even worse tournament with Belgium, Roberto Martinez.

Qualifying has worked out better than anybody could have anticipated, with Portugal winning their group with a 100 per cent record, 10 wins out of 10.

Bruno Fernandes is the best in Europe

Bruno Fernandes played all 10 of Portugal’s games and he signed off in style, scoring from outside the box in their final qualifier against Iceland.

The Manchester United star had an impressive all-round record, with six goals and seven assists.

Now, he has been ranked by SofaScore as the top player in Euro 2024 qualification. He is joined in the top five by Manchester United teammate Christian Eriksen.

Former Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo is ranked in eighth place, with a 7.59 average rating.

Romelu Lukaku failed to make the top 10 despite setting a Euro qualification all-time scoring record with 14 goals.

Fernandes was even rated as the World’s best

As we noted at the start, Bruno Fernandes is incredibly consistent at international level. He even scored out as the ‘best player’ per performance data at the 2022 World Cup.

While the plaudits at the tournament went to Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, Fernandes’ average performance score, per SofaScore, outgraded both players.

Fernandes’ 8.38 was narrowly higher than Lionel Messi’s 8.27, despite the Argentine scoring in every single knockout round.
