Diogo Dalot and Erik ten Hag have had their say on the impending 25 per cent acquisition from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos.

Manchester United picked up a 2-0 victory at the DW Stadium against Wigan Athletic in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.

Keeping a watching brief in Lancashire was Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc, who looks set to be a member of the new-look United board once the group passes the Premier League’s Owners & Directors test.

They would have witnessed a rather dominant display from United and Erik ten Hag’s men really should have won the game by a healthier margin in the end.

Ten Hag and Dalot on takeover

Speaking after the game, the pair had their say on the incoming investment and what it could mean for the future of the club as they look to weather a nasty storm on the pitch.

“It is an inspiration. Everyone is optimistic,” Ten Hag told ITV after their comfortable third-round victory. “There is a lot of work to do. We’ve had a lot of setbacks and I think in the summer we were in a good way but it is a journey, it is a project and now we have to deal with some setbacks but we will keep alive, survive it, and strike back.”

As well as the Dutchman, Dalot also gave his verdict on the impending takeover and said: “He’ll bring some good energy, new energy. Positives, new things to conquer. I think there’s a good feeling at Carrington, the motivation they [Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford] brought.”

Manchester United on the up

Despite the uncertainty of Ten Hag’s future on the pitch, off the pitch for the first time in nearly two decades, things look to be on the up for the Red Devils.

With fresh outside investment from people who have a willingness to listen and communicate with the fans and already seem to have a plan in place, this can only be a positive.

It is certainly early days yet but the signs are positive for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos as they prepare to take the sporting reins at Old Trafford.
