Manchester United’s need to sign a striker has never been more evident – but fixing the problem might not be simple.
David de Gea‘s error was the big talking point after Manchester United’s defeat away at West Ham.
It was the second successive defeat for United, and has left little room for error in the four remaining games.
United now face a real battle to secure a Champions League spot, with Liverpool putting a run together – although Newcastle’s defeat yesterday did help.
‘Harry Kane deal’ at risk
Manchester United need to sign a striker. This has been evident all season, and with no goals scored in the last two games.
In fact, the team have netted only three goals in the last six matches in all competitions.
Harry Kane is one of the players linked with solving the problem. The Times link United with a £100 million move – although Ben Foster believes it could be done at £70 million.
But there is a risk Manchester United could now blow it, by missing out on a top four spot.
This worry was underlined by former defender Gary Pallister, speaking to MUTV after the loss to West Ham.
He said: “If Harry Kane does want to go in the summer I’m sure he wants to go play Champions League football. Does it affect that deal. If we are not in it, do players want to come here. We need to be in Champions League football to attract the big players.”
Pallister went on to add that he is optimistic Manchester United make it into the top four.
He said: “I’m still comfortable with the games we’ve got, three at home, against teams that are beatable.”
United face Wolves at home, Bournemouth away, and then Chelsea and Fulham at home, with three victories needed.
