Manchester United loanee ranked team’s worst player as he ‘again lacked confidence’

Things are not getting any easier for Jadon Sancho with the Manchester United loanee struggling ‘once again’ for Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

It’s been a familiar sight since the Englishman’s return to the Signal Iduna Park in January.

Jadon Sancho finds himself in a promising position, usually on the edge of the opposition penalty area, and sees another attacking move break down, either due to a poorly weighted pass or an attempted dribble which ends in him being dispossessed rather easily.

Even as Dortmund won at Union Berlin – bouncing back from last week’s collapse at home to Hoffenheim – the Manchester United loanee was, as is typical of his form over the last two years, rather ineffective and underwhelming.

“Sancho once again lacked rhythm and self-confidence,” writes Spox, the German publication ranking the winger as Dortmund’s worst performer on the day alongside his underperforming former Man United team-mate Marcel Sabitzer.

“The Englishman ruined some promising situations because he lacked the ultimate conviction. He felt more comfortable after swapping sides with (Karim) Adeyemi on the left, but only really connected to the game in a few phases.”

With every week that goes by, with every insipid performance, Manchester United’s hopes of recouping a sizeable fraction of that £73 million investment diminishes. Sancho may yet outlast Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford but, if he does so, that will probably be because finding a buyer proved to be easier said than done, with his sorting out future one of the big challenges facing Dan Ashworth should he finally take over as technical director under Ineos.

Jadon Sancho yet to convince back at Dortmund

“With Jadon, it is always good to have him around,” Dortmund’s under-fire coach Edin Terzic said after Sancho produced a pretty dreadful display in the 1-1 Champions League draw with PSV Eindhoven.

“Jadon is capable of making special things happen. He didn’t have his best performance today, like us all, and he knows that he is able to play better football than today.

“This is what we are going to work on, to get him back on this level every three days when needed.”
