Manchester United loanee Brandon Williams is making progress on loan at Ipswich Town.

An injury to Luke Shaw emerged for Manchester United just 24 hours after Brandon Williams had been sent out on loan.

Rather than recall Williams, United chose to sign Sergio Reguilon on loan, who made his debut yesterday.

Meanwhile Williams continues his loan at Ipswich Town, where he is not currently first choice.

Brandon Williams praised

Brandon Williams was brought into Ipswich to provide an extra option defensively, however, at left-back he is competing against Leif Davis, who provided 14 assists as they won promotion from League One last season.

Davis got the start again on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday, providing the assist to give Ipswich the lead. But then he suffered an injury and had to be replaced with Williams at half-time.

Williams produced a strong 45 minutes to help Ipswich see out a 1-0 victory.

He won six of eight duels he contested, and also won four free-kicks for his side to relieve some pressure.

He was praised by manager, ex-United assistant Kieran McKenna, who told Town’s website: “Brandon came into the team and showed a real toughness and helped us see out the result.”

Williams could get run in the side

The Manchester United loanee could now get a run in the team to show what he can do, with Leif Davis out injured.

McKenna commented: “He’s in a boot. He rolled and had his ankle stepped on at the same time, which is never a good one.”

Whether Williams has a future at Manchester United does look doubtful, but one step at a time. The defender has an opportunity to kick on and demonstrate his credentials.
