Manchester United icon Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez is edging closer to a dream return to Chivas Guadalajara 14 years after leaving the Mexican outfit for the Premier League giants.
At the risk of making you all feel that little bit more aware of your own mortality, Manchester United’s once-baby-faced goal poacher will celebrate his 36th birthday later this year. Yes, it really has been that long since he arrived at Old Trafford with a smile as wide the Manchester canal and amid a flurry of well-taken finishes.
And, with the metaphorical autumn leaves crunching underfoot – Javier Hernandez entering the final stretch of a fine career – the modern-day Mexico icon is seizing the opportunity to come full circle and re-join the club where he made his name well over a decade ago.

“I can’t wait to return to Chivas,” Chicharito smiles on his official Twitch channel. “This week, my agent will be in Guadalajara. We are making a great effort so that this negotiation can be closed, but nothing is certain.
“I have had offers from other teams but, obviously ,my priority is to return to Chivas.”
Hernandez, scorer of 52 goals in 109 appearances at international level, has spent the last three seasons in North America with LA Galaxy. His contract expired on New Years’ Day, however, meaning the Guadalajara-born frontman can re-join his hometown club on a free transfer.
“I really want to close (the deal) as soon as possible. And the management wants it too,” Hernandez adds. “My representative will go to Guadalajara in the coming days to complete the operation.”

One of the most instinctive finishers of his generation, Hernandez joined Man United as a little-known youngster for a bargain £7 million. He would prove to be one of the most inspired, value-for-money additions of the late-Sir Alex Ferguson era, however.
Hernandez scoring 20 goals during a stunning debut season in England, including one which put The Red Devils 1-0 up and en route to another Premier League title inside just 30 seconds of a famous win over Chelsea.
