Ahead of Manchester United’s game with Southampton we wrote how Luke Shaw was going to be crucial to a Red Devils victory.
While United had a helping hand from an early red card, Shaw was integral to helping his team take full advantage.
Shaw set up United’s opening goal with an excellent cross to the back post to pick out an onrushing Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Wan-Bissaka does not get too many chances, yet he finished this one like a striker.
Shaw produced a second assist with a cross for Edinson Cavani to net United’s fourth goal.

45 minutes was all Shaw needed
United played Fred at left-back in the second half after a tactical reshuffle. Southampton will have been very relieved to see Shaw taken off.
In 45 minutes, Shaw managed to create five chances. He could quite easily have topped Bruno Fernandes’ season’s best of eight in one game had he stayed on for the full 90.
Shaw has now overtaken Alex Telles for assists, with the Brazilian on three for the season.
He managed 53 touches in 45 minutes, winning two tackles, helping to shut out Southampton’s attack during his time on the pitch.
In this type of form, ‘Shaw for England’ shouts are getting louder and louder. But really, we don’t care too much for that. All that matters is he keeps fit and keeps on producing for United.
