Lisandro Martinez and Argentina’s winning run continued at the expense of Switzerland, courtesy of a 3-1 win to progress to the World Cup semi-finals.
It was the last of four quarter-finals to set the stage for the semi-finals, and Alexis MacAllister set Argentina on their way with an early header.
Lisandro Martinez started again and was a rock-solid presence in the defensive setup alongside regular partner-in-crime, Cristian Romero.
Here’s how he generally fared in the game as he became the Man Utd player to play the most minutes this tournament.

How Lisandro Martinez fared for Argentina vs Switzerland
If the Man Utd version of Martinez last season was a frustrating player who just didn’t play enough, then the Argentine version is the polar opposite.
Think back to the player who came to Old Trafford for Erik ten Hag’s debut season and set the stage alight.
He was the same emotional and sporting rock for Argentina in their win against Switzerland, defending with purpose and passing with precision.
There were multiple occasions where his recovery tackles infused Argentina with energy and bite, and his passing from deep remained a huge threat.
Even as the game went into extra time, Martinez put aside all his fitness worries and put in a maverick display, taking on even more responsibility of carrying the ball against ten-man Switzerland.
He completed the most dribbles (3), had a brilliant acrobatic kick saved off the line, and defended with gusto whenever the Swiss attempted forays forward.
Michael Carrick will be very happy indeed if he can bring this level of form back to Old Trafford.
But before that, a semi-final date against England awaits…
