After months of frustration, Erik ten Hag’s position as Manchester United manager finally became untenable through a 2-1 defeat against West Ham.

Amid a streak of just one win in eight games, the writing was on the wall for Erik ten Hag after Jarrod Bowen scored the last-minute winner on Sunday.

West Ham moved ahead of Manchester United in the Premier League table with that 2-1 scoreline at the London Stadium – sending the Red Devils crashing down to 14th.

Monday morning brought the news that United had officially sacked Erik ten Hag, with club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy taking over.

The decision has been viewed by United fans as the right one, with the general consensus being that the Dutchman had been given ample opportunity to turn things around.

Now, fans have had their say on who should be replacing the FA Cup-winning manager.

Who Manchester United fans want to replace Erik ten Hag

After the announcement that Ten Hag has departed the club, as expected there have been plenty of reactions on X from fans who are looking at who could be the next manager.

For one fan, there are three top choices: “Xavi, Zidane, and Nagelsmann are dream signings.”

Meanwhile, Julian Nagelsmann had some real support from other fans: “Nagelsmann would be nice.”

“Nagelsmann or Amorim would probably be my first choices”.

However, there was one overwhelming favourite for the role, this being the Spaniard Xavi.

One United fan reminded people of Xavi’s managerial accomplishments: “Xavi rep is so cooked like he didn’t win LA LIGA”.

A second was also arguing Xavi’s case: “Xavi won the league with Barcelona though.”

Another fan simply responded to the announcement with “Xavi please”.

“ETH gone Xavi in please”, wrote a further fan in support of the idea.

Is Xavi the right man for Old Trafford?

Gauging reaction on X, Xavi feels like the clear favourite and this is lucky considering he also looks to be the most likely of the options.

It was first reported last week that United had earmarked Xavi as an option to take charge should Ten Hag be sacked – and now these rumours have only been heated up further.

Xavi has reportedly already made a series of demands to Ineos, during talks in recent weeks.

Xavi would been a good fit in terms of his dominant style of football and also utilising youth – something which would get him on side with United fans immediately.
