Former Manchester United stars Sergio Romero, Edinson Cavani and Marcos Rojo all had an eventful night as Boca Juniors reached the Copa Libertadores final.
The ex-Red Devils trio helped Boca Juniors beat Brazilian side Palmeiras, after a 1-1 draw, with Sergio Romero saving two spot-kicks in the decisive penalty shootout.
Former Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani scored Boca Juniors’ goal, his second for the Argentine side since joining from Valencia in the summer.
Marcos Rojo picked up a red card during the match, for two bookings. Amazingly he was never sent off while playing for Manchester United.

Manchester United fans react to Sergio Romero heroics
Sergio Romero was a fan favourite at Manchester United, playing a key role in the team’s Europa League final win in 2017.
Romero recently spoke fondly about his time at Manchester United, praising two of the managers he worked under, choosing not to mention the third at all. He left United as a free agent in summer 2021.
It is great to see the 36-year-old thriving, and now he is agonisingly close to winning another trophy.
Manchester United fans were thrilled to see Sergio Romero’s success, with one writing on social media: “One of the underrated goalkeepers in the world.”
Another wrote, “Come back, come save us from Onana,” in reference to the team’s current goalkeeping struggles.
A third fan wrote: “A great goalkeeper my club Man United didn’t use well. Congratulations Sergio Romero.”
Another supporter added: “He’s better than Onana,” while another fan posted: “Romero >>>>>>> Onana.”
When is the Copa Libertadores final
Boca Juniors will face another Brazilian side in the Copa Libertadores final when they face Fluminense.
The match will take place on November 4, and it will be played at the famous Maracanã Stadium.
Edinson Cavani will want to go one better than his last final, when he lost the Europa League to Villarreal in 2021.
That game was a 1-1 draw which went to penalties, like last night. The difference was Sergio Romero’s goalkeeping heroics helped his side win last night, while David de Gea could not do the same in Gdansk.
Romero was still on United’s books at that point, but was ostracised by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in his final season, and did not even travel with the squad for the final.
