Manchester United duo ruled out of Leicester City clash, Amorim now needs 18-year-old to be ready

The list of Manchester United players out injured has grown ahead of Friday night’s clash with Leicester City.

Manchester United take on Leicester City in the FA Cup fourth round and it’s a chance for Ruben Amorim’s side to book a place in the fifth round.

After booking a place in the fourth round thanks to a penalty shootout win over Arsenal at the Emirates, United welcome former player and caretaker manager Ruud van Nistelrooy back to Old Trafford.

It will be Van Nistelrooy’s first time back at Old Trafford since departing following Amorim’s arrival, with kick-off scheduled for 8pm UK time.

Leicester hammered Queens Park Rangers 6-2 in their third-round tie at the King Power Stadium in January.

The Reds won the FA Cup last season under Erik ten Hag, who was axed last October, after beating Manchester City 2-1 at Wembley.

Manchester United duo ruled out

Ruben Amorim is set to be without two goalkeepers when United take on Leicester City in the FA Cup.

The head coach spoke to club media ahead of the match and revealed that Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton are unlikely to face the Foxes.

On top of that, United have been dealt a major injury blow after announcing that Lisandro Martinez is ruled out for the season with a torn cruciate.

Bayindir, who was the hero in the third round with two pivotal penalty saves, was hoping for his seventh outing this term. The Turkey international also kept a clean sheet in his last appearance as United beat FCSB in the Europa League.

Heaton has also been ruled out by the head coach.

Amorim told MUTV: “Altay, I think, he has a problem. So he is not available for the game. Tom is also not for this game but he can play the other ones [in the future].

“So the rest are ready. The important thing is we are ready to face the game.”

Chance for Elyh Harrison

Highly regarded United academy goalkeeper Elyh Harrison, 18, was named on the bench for the league defeat to Crystal Palace.

That alone suggests he may be in the picture to be named on the bench again tonight. Fellow academy hopefuls Hubert Graczyk and Dermot Mee could get called up, too.

United’s U21s are also in action tonight, facing Tottenham, which could influence Amorim’s selection of goalkeepers.

Amorim is unlikely to take any unnecessary risks, which means Andre Onana is likely to start against Leicester City.

If Bayindir didn’t pick up a knock, he would have had a good chance of continuing his run of cup matches under Amorim.
