Manchester United’s Paul McShane has admitted having a sense that ‘something is happening’ at the club following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival.

It took a while – probably longer than some expected – but Ineos are finally on board at Manchester United.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co have purchased a 27.7% stake in United and are expected to make big changes.

United need a complete overhaul off the pitch and the hope is that Ineos can finally make the club into a real power once again.

We have already seen plenty of rumours about who could join United’s new organisational structure and the coming months should be hugely exciting for fans.

Paul McShane on Ineos

It’s even exciting for people inside United as Professional Development Phase coach Paul McShane has shared his thoughts.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner, McShane has admitted that you can tell ‘something is going on’ as Ineos start to make changes at Old Trafford.

McShane noted that whilst he hasn’t dealt with Ineos directly, he knows that Sir Dave Brailsford has been active in terms of speaking to people inside the club.

McShane added that the wheel appear to be ‘in motion’ for changes at United and he can ‘definitely’ sense that this is a new era.

“You can sense that something is going on and things are definitely moving,” said McShane. “I’ve not had many dealings with them directly but there have been some people coming from above.”

“I know Dave Brailsford has been chatting to quite a few people. I think the wheels are in motion for a few changes but how that will look I’m not quite sure but you can definitely sense a bit of a change,” he added.

Changes Ineos could make at Manchester United

So what could Ineos actually do in the coming months?

The top priority appears to be landing a sporting director, with Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth the top target.

That deal isn’t an easy one to pull off but landing one of the top operators in English football would show that Ratcliffe and co mean business.

Southampton director of football Jason Wilcox is wanted too, which would be another fine move given his history and expertise at Manchester City.

Landing experienced football people in major roles is something that United should have been doing for years.

Ineos aren’t reinventing the wheel here but adding Wilcox and Ashworth alongside incoming CEO Omar Berrada would give United what has been needed for a long time; football expertise to help drive the club forward on and off the field.
