Manchester United are now looking to hire Jason Wilcox to add to the club’s growing backroom team.

In addition to the ongoing remodel under Ineos, potential sporting director Dan Ashworth could be joined by Southampton’s Jason Wilcox.

The Athletic report Manchester United are actively working to hire Wilcox, who formerly worked at Manchester City.

Wilcox is the current director of football at Southampton, and he would work under Ashworth, however, it is claimed he could head to Old Trafford before the Newcastle man. The Telegraph report Wilcox could work as a head of recruitment at United.

The news of Manchester United’s interest unfolded just prior to Southampton’s weekly press conference, and Saints boss Russell Martin was quizzed about the developing story.

Martin is quoted, per Fabrizio Romano: “I’ve got a lot of respect for Jason and it’s no surprise someone would be interested in working with him. He’s so open and honest. I hope he would have a chat with us first.”

Wilcox is highly regarded and his time at City crossed over with new Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada, appointed last month.

He was a former player who won the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers in 1994/95.

Ineos shaking up English football

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is intent of taking Manchester United back to the top of English football, and his investment in the club has been approved by the Premier League.

This move for Wilcox is the latest example of seeking to hire the ‘best in class’. He is very highly regarded and has a track record of working with young players, previously heading up City’s academy.

He would form part of a management team along with Dan Ashworth, who looks set to join from Newcastle in the coming months ahead.

The move for Omar Berrada set the tone, that United are not afraid to go after other club’s top figures, and intend on being successful.

It bodes well for the future of the club, after years of dismal running at the hands of the Glazers.
