Instant reaction
Earlier today we looked at best and worst case scenarios for the Champions League draw. And yes, Bayern Munich were the worst case.
The match-ups against Bayern will be as tough as it gets, and there will be huge focus on new Bayern signing Harry Kane. The narrative is already built in, with United’s young striker Rasmus Hojlund getting a chance to outshine the Englishman.
United will have to be ruthless in order to qualify top of the group, Bayern are a winning machine.
On the plus side, United did draw arguably the weakest side from pot three, Danish champions FC Copenhagen.
This will be an emotional one for Rasmus Hojlund, against the team where he began his career.
The fourth side is Galatasaray, which will bring back memories for fans of clashes in the mid-90s.
MORE UNITED STORIES
A spicy away fixture, the clash with the Turkish side will hold no fear on the pitch for United, and whatever the result of the fixtures against Bayern Munich, Erik ten Hag’s side could still rack up 12 points from matches against Copenhagen and Galatasaray.
This is a good draw, which won’t be easy, but could have been a lot worse.
