Manchester United players returned for pre-season training on July 8 with a view to being ready for the first game of the pre-season on July 15 against Rosenborg in Norway.
There is an intense schedule awaiting United, with the trip to Norway followed by a game in Scotland and then a trip to the USA where United play three games in a week.
A lot of youngsters are hoping for a chance to make a breakthrough and with so many games in a short period of time, rotation is imperative.
Especially as United have added another game to this packed schedule.

Manchester United pre-season gets another game
Manchester United have announced that a United XI will travel to Chester to face against the National League North team Chester FC in Deva Stadium on July 24.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 19.30 PM BST and is a repeat of last year’s fixture when a United squad containing Teden Mengi, Willy Kambwala, and Hannibal Mejbri beat Chester 4-0.
Charlie McNeill, Shola Shoretire, and Noam Emeran scored for the team that day and it is a measure of how quick football moves that only Kambwala seems to have a future at United at this point in time.
A similarly youthful squad is expected to take the pitch this year as well as United’s senior players will have presumably traveled to the USA to prepare for their first game of the tour against Arsenal on July 28.
United fans who want to see the game can buy £12 tickets for adults, with concessions available for £10. 18-21-year-olds will pay £5, aged 12-17 will pay £3, and under 12s can enter free of charge.
United supporters have been allocated the Mike Metcalf (West) stand.
A crucial pre-season
While it is a line said every year, this year’s pre-season truly figures to be United’s most important one since Sir Alex Ferguson retired as manager.
Many false dawns have come and gone under new managers, but it is the first time the decision-makers above them have changed. There is an excitement and hopeful feeling in and around the club and the momentum from it needs to be translated into performances.
With Erik ten Hag’s contract extension, there is clarity over the future and as another pre-season game being added shows, the club is leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit to return the giant to its former glories.
