Manager linked with Manchester United now says he’s ‘really happy’ in his current job

Ruben Amorim is under intense pressure at Manchester United, with several other coaches being linked with succeeding him after a slow start to the 2025/26 season.

If Ruben Amorim ever wondered what pressure feels like at one of the biggest clubs in the world, the Portuguese coach knows now after starting the new Premier League season with two wins in six.

After United’s 3-1 defeat against Brentford, the Red Devils are 14th in the Premier League table. They host Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday as they attempt to get back to winning ways.

While a win won’t ease the pressure on Amorim, anything less could prove disastrous as the former Sporting CP coach tries to turn things around by persisting with his 3-4-2-1 system.

Amorim’s system has been subjected to heavy criticism, with several other coaches emerging as potential candidates to take over and steer the ship at United.

Some of the coaches reportedly being considered by Ineos are currently managing in the Premier League, although one has since publicly admitted that he is happy at his current club.

Three Premier League coaches will be under consideration at United if Amorim is sacked in the immediate future.

They include Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, Brighton’s Fabian Hürzeler, and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola.

This suggests Ineos are eyeing a coach with Premier League experience to take the team forward, should they decide that Amorim has fallen short on expectations.

Iraola has been speaking about life at Bournemouth, and he appears to be happy in his current job. That will come as a major boost to their fans, who are likely fearful he could leave if United made an offer he couldn’t turn down.

“We are trying to adapt and we are trying to grow, even if we are still a small club in the giants of the Premier League, everything is looking really nice,” Iraola told Sky Sports.

“I think it’s a great place to work, we have better facilities than we really need, and I’m really happy here.”

It is also understood that Ineos have sounded out Michael Carrick as a potential interim manager, with the former midfielder currently out of work after being let go by Middlesbrough.

Meanwhile, Ben Foster has tipped Glasner for the United job, while Hurzeler is focusing on Brighton.

Ruben Amorim came up short against Andoni Iraola last season

United played Bournemouth twice last season and were unable to secure three points on either occasion.

Bournemouth came away from Old Trafford with a 3-0 win in December, before United took a point from their travels against a side down to 10 men at the end of the season.

Rasmus Hojlund scored an equaliser in stoppage time as the game ended 1-1.
