A key Manchester United first-team player is always exploring the best way that he can “benefit the team” under Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
Newcastle hosted Manchester United at St James’ Park and the Red Devils suffered a thumping 4-1 Premier League defeat to the Magpies on Sunday afternoon.
Ruben Amorim has already been forced to switch his attention away from United’s drubbing at the hands of Newcastle ahead of the Red Devils’ upcoming clash.
United will now resume their Europa League campaign and the Red Devils face a crucial test against Ligue 1 outfit Lyon on Thursday evening at Old Trafford.
Amorim’s men were in action in France last Thursday evening and United and French side Lyon played out a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals.
United came from 1-0 down against Lyon to lead their opponents 2-1 before Andre Onana committed his second howler of the match at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
The Europa League remains United’s best chance of securing a return to European football and a route back to the Champions League for the 2025-26 campaign.
UEFA’s second-tier club competition is also Amorim’s last chance of lifting major silverware as United manager in the current campaign since his arrival in 2024.

Diogo Dalot on trying to improve at Man Utd under Ruben Amorim and what he can still offer at Old Trafford
Diogo Dalot established himself as the first-choice Manchester United right-back under Erik ten Hag and he impressed with his consistency in the 2023-24 campaign.
The 26-year-old has maintained his place in the United first team under Red Devils boss Amorim after Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager last October.
Speaking to United’s official media channels, Diogo Dalot admitted that he still has hunger in his belly at Old Trafford and is still looking at ways to improve himself.
“I always try to see what can I improve on,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“What can I change? I have that type of belief that there’s always something you can improve.
“So, I’m constantly trying to see ways of trying to improve my game, my way of life, the way I live, my profession and my daily life.
“So, I’m always trying to see the best for me because ultimately, if I have that approach, I think it will benefit the team.
“Once you start looking at your body as your tool to succeed, to work, then you can start knowing your body a little bit more.
“You know the timings, you know the loads, you know the best ways to recover, the best ways to push even more. And that comes with time.”
Man Utd and Portugal star Diogo Dalot sends a clear-cut message to Ruben Amorim over his role at Old Trafford
Diogo Dalot claimed that he is still looking at ways to improve himself both on the pitch and off it and he wants to do everything in his power to help Amorim’s team succeed.
“I mean, you cannot ask [an] 18 or 19-year-old player to know their body like that, and even myself, I’m starting now to understand it a little bit, but I think it will take even a couple more years to be to be in the right spot to understand everything about my body,” he explained.
“So, I’m very curious about whether I can improve my game on and off the pitch to be ready. But like I said, ultimately, I think that’s what we have to do to benefit the club.
“It’s a way of trying to get to the best level if you want to be able to play in the way football is going now, which can be 60-70 games per season if you’re at a top-level team.
“You need to start to be prepared for that because it will get really exhausting for the body [if you don’t].”
United and Lyon will kick off their important second-leg Europa League quarter-final tie on Thursday evening at 8pm UK time at Old Trafford.
