Man Utd owners the Glazers slammed by players on own NFL team, it’s embarrassing

Manchester United’s owners have been slammed for various aspects of their ownership at their NFL team.

As well as still being the majority shareholders of Manchester United, the Glazers also own the American Football team Tampa Bay Buccanneers.

The Buccaneers won the NFL’s top prize in the Super Bowl in 2021 but have now been criticised in a player survey for the facilities available to them.

The NFL Players Association’s report card of NFL teams, which surveys players, ranks each club in the league for how they treat players in several different areas.

These include treatment of families, team travel, ownership, training facilities, locker room condition and the quality of food on offer.

The Buccaneers ranked 24th out of a possible 32 teams overall and finished especially low in some areas, which will ring true for United fans as well.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers report card

The report card found the Buccaneers especially bad in ownership (grade D, ranked 29th), treatment of families (grade F, ranked 28th) and team travel (grade F, ranked 32nd).

Some of the key findings from the report include:

• They are one of 12 teams that do not provide a family room during games
• They provide daycare but charge $90 per child, most teams offer this service for free

• The major issue brought up by players is a lack of cleanliness. The players say the locker room is not clean, constantly smelly and has a persistent bug issue in the showers. They also mention that the sauna is dirty and/or moldy, small and constantly breaking down.
• The players feel the locker room is old, outdated and needs to be renovated
• Younger players have roommates, unless they pay the team approximately $1,750 for their own room each season
• Club owner Joel Glazer receives a rating of 6.1/10 from Buccaneer players when considering his willingness to invest in the facilities (29th overall)

Tampa Bay’s response

The Bucs released the following statement in response to the report: “We value the NFLPA report and the input from our players that it provides.

“The feedback allows us to examine, address and improve many areas of our operation.

“We hold ourselves to the highest standards as we strive to be first-class in everything we do.”

A similar story

A lot of the complaints will no doubt ring true for Manchester United fans, who have seen a complete lack of investment degrade the club over the last decade.

While other clubs have spent heavily in modernising their stadiums and club facilities, United failed to spend to move with the times.

Thankfully, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group have now taken over football operations at the club and have promised big investment to revamp the club to once again compete with their biggest rivals.
