Gordon Hill has sent a warning to Manchester United and Ruben Amorim about the January transfer window, with the Red Devils linked to multiple players in the winter market.
It has been a topsy-turvy campaign for Manchester United in the Premier League.
Currently sitting sixth and within reach of the top four, Ruben Amorim can count himself lucky that the team find themselves in a competitive position after many questionable results along the way.
Although Amorim sounded downbeat when it came to transfer talk at Friday’s press conference, with United set to miss out on Antoine Semenyo as the Bournemouth talisman is destined to join Pep Guardiola at Man City.
Who do YOU think is Man Utd’s best January signing ever? Would you change the order?
Who else should be on this list?
United enquired about a January deal for Carlos Baleba, but it was knocked back as Brighton are unwilling to part ways with the Cameroon midfielder midway through the season.
With United still linked to multiple targets, Ineos has been issued a warning from one of the club’s true greats.

Gordon Hill wary of Man Utd’s transfer activity
It must be a challenging job to lead United’s recruitment drive each year. Football director Jason Wilcox is in the process of finding that out, after moving to Old Trafford from City following Ineos’ purchase of a minority share in the club.
That means Wilcox, along with Ineos as a whole and Amorim, take the flak whenever signings don’t go to plan.
Previous recruitment teams learned the hard way under Glazer ownership. The Americans would allow executives such as Ed Woodward to Richard Arnold to run the club, often showing the power they had over former managers.
United legend Gordon Hill has revealed his feelings towards his former club in the winter transfer market.
Hill urges caution over the targets United are being linked with and stresses the importance of getting rid players no longer needed.
The ex-winger wrote on X: “United need to be very careful, about who they sign, yes the window is open but the players that are being banded about are not what they need at this moment. get rid of the drift wood first in the window, and look precisely what is needed next. according to this guy no money.”
In a second post, Hill doubled up by suggesting Amorim should be concerned if the issues are financial as to why the squad can’t be strengthened at a time results need to improve.
Hill added: “Caring on from my last post, If he {United} is not giving any money to Amorim, that shows that there could be a change or a no confidence vote. Again turmoil, what is needed is consolidation in the squad and the League, not chaos, League position would be my top job first.”
SHOULD Manchester United be signing Christos Mouzakitis in 2026? 🇬🇷
Or is he not what Ruben Amorim needs?
Who have Man Utd been linked to this January?
Other than Baleba, the list of reported targets is long and it’s growing.
United will always attract the headlines and that means the club often gets linked to players it has no interest in signing.
United have been keeping an eye on Greek starlet Christos Mouzakitis as well as Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi. The two young midfielders have emerged as recent targets but the speculation doesn’t stop there.
RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is a new hot target following Semenyo’s snub for City. It remains to be seen if United will sign any of these players or wait until the summer to conduct their business.
