Man Utd could replace Ruben Amorim with manager who has given Carrington graduates more minutes this season

Despite arriving with an excellent youth football record, Ruben Amorim has all but abandoned his academy integration at Manchester United.

One of the cardinal rules that the manager of Manchester United needs to abide by is making use of the club’s excellent academy.

This is something Ruben Amorim showed signs of doing last season, with three United academy debutants awarded.

However, this season, Amorim’s usage of Kobbie Mainoo in particular has raised concerns over his commitment to using the youth.

Not using the academy is among the biggest criticisms that United fans have of Amorim, making things worse, his potential successor has used more Carrington graduates this season already.

Roberto De Zerbi has already shown more faith in Carrington than Ruben Amorim

Amorim had an excellent youth record at Sporting CP, however, his trust hasn’t carried to United despite boasting one of the strongest academy sides in the country.

Only Chido Obi, Harry Amass, and Tyler Fredricson have made their debuts from the academy under Amorim, despite several youngsters banging on his door.

This season, Amorim has only played United academy graduates for 235 minutes across all competitions, this being 190 minutes of Mainoo and 45 for Fredricson.

Amorim’s United career is now on the line, with this being one factor, as Ineos considers options. One potential appointment sees United considering Roberto De Zerbi to replace Amorim, which brings up an interesting point.

De Zerbi has two United graduates in his squad, who have played a combined 1090 minutes this season: Angel Gomes, playing 474, and Mason Greenwood, 616.

This faith in United exports has paid off for De Zerbi as both are key players, which could have him excited to potentially see what wonderkids Carrington currently has.

Manchester United needs a youth-centric head coach next

While Amorim would probably use the academy in an ideal world, he has proven he has no confidence or trust in the youngsters when times get hard.

Wayne Rooney has voiced his concern over United, particularly over his sons Kai and Klay, who are in the academy with the pathway disappearing.

United’s senior players have been underperforming for years, and under Erik ten Hag, it was Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho who saved his job time after time.

Amorim still has time to get fans on side by trusting youth, but if he isn’t planning to do so, then United need a manager who will.

There is too much quality in the academy to waste on a coach not willing to give opportunities. We’re not saying De Zerbi is the right man for the job, but he certainly seems better suited.
