Ruben Amorim has dropped a clear-cut verdict on one Manchester United summer signing ahead of the Red Devils’ penalty shootout win over Fiorentina on Saturday.

The 40-year-old Manchester United manager is now beginning to reshape the vision of the squad that he inherited from Erik ten Hag during the 2024-25 campaign.

Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe added Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu to Ruben Amorim’s squad at Old Trafford during the previous Premier League season.

Amorim has now bolstered key positions in the United first-team squad this summer after the signings of Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu in the January window.

The Red Devils have had a busy summer transfer window and United have signed the likes of Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon.

Ruben Amorim sets a high bar for Man Utd wonderkid Diego Leon ahead of the final pre-season match against Fiorentina

Diego Leon agreed to sign for Manchester United back in the January window when he was only 17 and the wonderkid finally arrived at Old Trafford this summer.

The 18-year-old defender, who can play as either a left-back or as a left wing-back, made his exit from Cerro Porteno and United announced the signing last month.

Leon has featured on the pre-season summer tour under manager Ruben Amorim and United fans have had a first look at the potential of the Paraguayan full-back.

Speaking ahead of United’s 5-4 penalty shootout win over Fiorentina at Old Trafford, Amorim insisted that Leon has “high potential” that he can hit in his playing career.

“Diego, is of course, a different type of signing, with high potential for the future,” he said in his preview for United Review, as per Manchester United’s official website.

Diego Leon did not play vs Fiorentina at Old Trafford, but the stage is set for the Man Utd talent to shine next season

Leon was an unused substitute for Red Devils boss Amorim in United’s result against Fiorentina on Saturday, which marked the end of the pre-season tour.

But the Paraguayan took to the pitch ahead of kick-off and was unveiled to United fans alongside fellow signings Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo.

Leon is expected to remain at Old Trafford for the 2025-26 campaign and is expected to play second fiddle to Patrick Dorgu for the left wing-back role.

The former Cerro Porteno talent will continue his development with the United youth academy, but it is likely that he will play for the first team in the upcoming season.
