Former Manchester United player Gordon Hill has pinpointed an all-important aspect missing from the Red Devils after the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag’s men suffered a humiliating defeat to Tottenham on Sunday, with the Red Devils ending the match with 10 men after Bruno Fernandes’ sending off.
Manchester United have endured a poor start to the 2024-25 Premier League season under Erik ten Hag, with the club managing only two league wins.
The Red Devils are currently 12th in the Premier League table and Ten Hag is facing mounting pressure after United’s defeat on the weekend.
Ten Hag’s side went into their Premier League clash against Spurs on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw against FC Twente at Old Trafford in the Europa League.
The 54-year-old Dutchman will demand his side to bounce back on Thursday for their Europa League clash against Porto at the Estadio do Dragao in Portugal.

Hill sends message to Man Utd fans
Gordon Hill took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and expressed his disappointment at Manchester United’s performance against Spurs.
The 70-year-old former United winger admitted that Red Devils supporters “deserve” a lot more and the club are not performing at the high expectations set for them.
However, Hill also added that a major aspect missing from United is the “culture,” despite the Premier League club going through a “bad” time.
“You fans deserve better,” he wrote on X.
“United is not just another club, it is one of the most famous football clubs in the world to watch.
“What I am seeing now is nowhere near that. Yes, all clubs go through bad times, I understand that, but United is a culture, which [to] me is missing.”
Fernandes looking ahead for Man Utd
Bruno Fernandes could return to the starting XI for United in their upcoming Europa League clash against Porto.
The 30-year-old United captain’s red card in the Spurs defeat only applies to domestic matches, meaning Erik ten Hag could play him in the club’s next match.
Following on from the draw against FC Twente, Fernandes has insisted that United are expecting a “really difficult” match at the Estadio do Dragao on Thursday.
“It’s a side that always does really well in Europe, we have to be aware of that,” he told MUTV, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“It’s a team that has a great spirit, [are] improving a lot in the last few games, even if they lost the last game in the Europa League.”
Fernandes added: “It is a team that has been improving under their new manager [Vitor Bruno].
“We expect a really difficult game there, but we go there to win because it’s everything that we have to think about.”
