Manchester United made their feelings perfectly clear on Marcus Rashford after the Aston Villa player landed a place in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad.
Marcus Rashford made his high-profile Manchester United exit in the January transfer window and he signed for Aston Villa as part of a loan deal.
Villa reportedly agreed to pay a large portion of Rashford’s mammoth United wages and did not have to pay a transfer fee for the Red Devils loanee.
United also included an option for Villa to buy Rashford for £40m, with the England international spending the second half of the 2024-25 season at Villa Park.
Rashford, who signed for Villa in February, was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford after he fell down the pecking order under United boss Ruben Amorim.
Ruben Amorim dropped Rashford for the 2-1 Premier League win over Manchester City at the Etihad and urged the England star to fight for his place in the first team.
However, Rashford hinted that his future was away from the Premier League club and the United star was offered the chance to revive his career at Villa.

What Man Utd fans made of Marcus Rashford’s return to England squad
Thomas Tuchel, who was linked with Manchester United in the past, confirmed his first 26-man England squad on Friday ahead of the international break.
Marcus Rashford’s form at Old Trafford fell off a cliff last season and the United player missed out on representing England at Euro 2024 last summer.
The 27-year-old United star’s struggles extended into the current season with the Red Devils, despite former Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag sticking with him.
United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, had a mixed reaction to the Aston Villa attacker’s return to the England squad.
“Happy for Rashford. Sometimes all you need is a change of environment,” one fan said.
Another claimed: “Exactly that. And I’m not entirely sure how some okay games for Villa mean Rashford’s back. Even my Villa mate is confused by it.”
Someone else commented: “It’s interesting to hear Tuchel talk about Rashford’s off-the-ball work as the main reason he got called up.”
“Rashford back in, well deserved,” a fourth wrote.
While a fifth added: “Good to have Rashford back in that England team. I have always said that no-one can bench Rashford [on] that left side of [the] England team.”
“Rashford looks dangerous and is proven at a far higher level! These are qualifiers, not friendlies. His chance will come,” another suggested.
A seventh X user posted: “Even if Rashford remained [at] United, Tuchel would have still called him up. He is TT kinda player, and he always brings different dynamics to England’s squad.”
And an eight United fan tweeted: “Pleased for Rashford getting back in the England squad – I think Tuchel’s always liked him, so was always gonna give him a chance.”
Man Utd star Marcus Rashford has second chance with England after Aston Villa form
England will face Albania on 21st March in their World Cup qualifier at Wembley and will then host Latvia on 24th March for the second match of the international break.
Former Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel was appointed England manager in 2024 after Gareth Southgate stepped down as Three Lions head coach.
According to England’s official website, Rashford will now link up with his Three Lions teammates at St George’s Park “early next week” for the March break.
Rashford has made nine appearances for Villa since the start of his six-month loan spell and the United player has failed to net for his current side.
However, Rashford has picked up four assists under Villa manager Unai Emery and the Three Lions attacker has shown moments of his best form at times.
