Manchester United’s season will be defined on Thursday night in the Europa League quarter-final against Lyon, but before that, Marcus Rashford has been in Champions League action.

It was an impossible task which faced Aston Villa at Villa Park on Tuesday night, with Paris Saint-Germain holding a 3-1 lead heading into the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final.

For Manchester United, there was a vested interest held in this game with loanee Marcus Rashford starting through the middle for Unai Emery’s men.

Before the game, Emery was urged to start Rashford with claims it could save the tie, and it very nearly did as despite going 2-0 down early, Villa fought back to take a 3-2 lead – trailing 4-5 on aggregate – but it ultimately was not enough.

Rashford struggled in the first leg over in Paris, but in Birmingham on Tuesday night, he resembled the player that United fans fell in love with almost a decade ago with one moment of pure brilliance, which assisted the go-ahead goal for Villa.

Marcus Rashford shines for Aston Villa

In the 57th minute, Rashford showed signs of the incredible player he can be in any given moment as he turned on the style from wide to beat one PSG defender before rounding another and picking out an excellent pull-back to set up an Ezri Konsa goal.

This moment of absolute genius was something Rashford became known for at United through the years, and it is something Ruben Amorim could desperately use right now within his struggling team.

In the game, Rashford was the most dangerous player on the pitch as he created the most chances with four and completed the most dribbled with four. He also completed six crosses and won six duels in what was a very impressive performance all around for the 27-year-old.

After this display for the Villians, it got United fans talking, with the assist in particular highlighted for how sensational it was and some even suggesting they’d like to see the Englishman back at Old Trafford.

What Manchester United fans are saying about Marcus Rashford vs PSG

Over the past few month, Rashford has refound his love for football while playing for Villa which bodes well for his career whether that be back in Manchester or at Villa Park or even elsewhere.

After watching Rashford shine for Villa, one fan couldn’t help but admit how good the current loanee had been: “Rashford’s been outstanding in the 2nd half, absolutely world-class.”

A second United fan agreed: “MARCUS RASHFORD THAT IS OUT OF THIS WORLDDDD WOWWWWWWWW”.

While a third added: “RASHFORD ARE YOU MADDDDDDD WHAT AN ASSIST”.

Finally, a fourth commented: “Take a bow Rashford ___!!!”

Not all fans’ reactions were positive, with some turning their attention more to criticising the club and Amorim for letting him leave.

“Sort of mad that Rashford is good enough to start at striker for a club in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, but not good enough to be in a match-day squad of a side in 14th”, one added.

Another commented: “Rashford has made Amorim look a right ____”.

A final supporter wrote: “The only big game player we had, we sold”.
