Amad is being sorely missed by Manchester United while he’s away for AFCON, but it might be a price Ruben Amorim happily pays if fans are right about their theory.
The Ivory Coast have been carried by Amad in their first two games, with the Man Utd star winning the MOTM award in both games, one at the cost of Bryan Mbeumo.
The wing-pairing of Amad on the right and Yan Diomande on the left is wreaking havoc, and Man Utd fans saw this coming.
What do you think Amad’s best position is for Manchester United?
However, what they didn’t expect was Yan Diomande ‘stirring the pot’, as one fan put it, sending the rumour mill into overdrive.

Yan Diomande sparks Man Utd links with Amad message
Diomande is currently the apple of the eye of pretty much every elite European club, thriving at RB Leipzig as an electric winger.
United have been credited with an interest in Diomande, a story that will gain strength, especially if Amorim is pondering a new system.
Diomande’s talent has been described as ‘generational’, and he has been showing glimpses of the same at AFCON with some spirited performances.
After the Ivory Coast’s recent game against Mbeumo’s Cameroon, Diomande appeared only too happy to fan the flames of these links with Man Utd.
He posted a picture of himself with Amad celebrating his goal, writing in French, “YD and AD, you know my bro,” with a magician emoji and a heart emoji.
That was accompanied by multiple photos of himself with Amad before and after the game, leading to many Man Utd fans wondering whether he’s actually that close with Amad or just extremely aware of the noise around his future regarding Man Utd.
Man Utd fans convinced about ‘agent’ Amad
Diomande using AFCON to put out a message about Amad wasn’t lost on United fans, who saw Andre Onana do a similar job to convince Bryan Mbeumo.
Who do YOU think is Man Utd’s best January signing ever? Would you change the order?
Who else should be on this list?
“Bro just stirring the pot, no way he’s that close with AD [Amad Diallo],” wrote one fan, convinced that Diomande is fanning the flames of United links.
“Amad is teasing us surely,” and “Agent Amadinho,” and “Agent Amad working overtime away from Man Utd,” were also popular and common reactions.
“They know what we don’t know,” wrote another, only too happy to get swept up in Diomande’s hints.
“He would definitely join us if we went for him,” said another, as one agreed, “It couldn’t be more obvious!”
One fan paged Man Utd directly, tagging the club’s account and asking, “Tell me you are already on the final details.”
Finally, one fan put it hilariously, saying, “YD/AD, so D cancels out, leaving YAnitedddddd!”
Until they both land at Old Trafford, if at all, United fans can continue to see what their pairing looks like when Ivory Coast play Gabon on December 31, 2025.
