The AFCON had a strong Manchester United flavour to it recently as Amad’s Ivory Coast faced off against Bryan Mbeumo’s Cameroon.

Amad and Bryan Mbeumo kicked off their AFCON in style, winning the player of the match awards for their respective countries in the first game.

Their next game was against each other, which was going to be bittersweet for Man Utd fans, since the likelihood of one coming back to Old Trafford early was strong.

However, fans made an interesting point after the two teams cancelled each other out in a battling 1-1 draw that saw Amad win his second consecutive player of the match award.

Amad and Bryan Mbeumo battle it out

Since Amad and Mbeumo play on the same wing, they weren’t directly up against each other on the day, but one player still emerged as the clear winner.

Amad scored a brilliant goal for the Ivory Coast, and even though it was cancelled out by an own goal from Ghislain Konan five minutes later, it was enough to make him the standout player.

Amad created the most chances in the match (4) and had five shots on goal in addition to his goal to mark an all-action attacking performance.

Mbeumo, in contrast, was kept fairly quiet, especially relative to his extremely high standards.

He played the full 90 minutes but created just one chance. None of his three shots were on target to sum up a frustrating outing in attack.

Having seen Amad and Mbeumo have contrasting games against each other, Man Utd fans reached a verdict on how they should be seen at Carrington when they return.

Man Utd fans make interesting Amad vs Mbeumo point

Amad and Mbeumo’s exploits at AFCON were largely expected because they are two of the most talented players at the tournament.

However, Amad has done it all playing as a right-winger, while Mbeumo has been deployed as a No. 10, more like his position at Man Utd.

Now that a clear winner has emerged from their duel, United fans hilariously made an interesting point that a changing of the guard should be underway at United.

“Amad is him, and he’s won the battle of the wings. Now we know who the wing-back should be,” said one fan cheekily, making the point that Amad and Mbeumo should swap places for United now.

“I’m sorry, Bryan, but you gotta give it up,” said another to make the same point as the poster above.

“Amad hive, we’ve been patient. Now it’s time to be loud, ” said a third to echo the fan sentiment of those who have seen him toil on loan and under Erik ten Hag.

“Right wing of Manchester United reunites,” said another, as a fifth made a pun, “Men United”, under a photo of Mbeumo and Amad standing together.

“I don’t want to see him in that wing-back position again,” opined another to add to the growing sentiment, as another cheekily remarked, “The GOAT debate starts now.”

The Ivory Coast and Cameroon will play their final group game on December 31, with a draw or a win sealing both their progress to the next round.
