England defender Harry Maguire has been hailed by Manchester United fans as an “absolute warrior” after his stellar performance against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
Maguire, who has come under mounting pressure since he was stripped of the captaincy last summer, started alongside Jonny Evans in defence for United.
The 30-year-old United defender was on the pitch floor within the first minute at Craven Cottage after he took a nasty blow to the head.
Raphael Varane was sent to warm-up while his teammate was attended to by United’s medical staff on the pitch, with Maguire carrying on after his treatment.
After a cut above his eye was patched up, Maguire went on to play the full 90 minutes for United and earned rave reviews from fans for his performance.

United fans react to ‘warrior’ Maguire’s performance
While Maguire was ruled to have been interfering in play for Scott McTominay’s cancelled opener, the England star proved his worth again to Erik ten Hag.
Maguire has now started in six consecutive matches across all competitions for United and is hitting back at the criticism that he has received through his performances.
“Maguire [has] been an absolute warrior to last an hour and play today after that early elbow,” one fan said.
While another added: “Great defensive performance from United today. Evans and Maguire [have] been unreal.”
A third tweeted: “Maguire has been superb tonight, fair play to him.”
And a fourth X, formerly Twitter, user wrote: “Maguire should be off for his own safety, but his battling has been superb.”
Someone else commented: “Another brilliant [match] from Maguire, too. His whole attitude, despite all the cruelty, has been admirable.”
“Harry Maguire [with a] Man of the Match performance,” a sixth posted.
A seventh fan said: “Maguire has played a brilliant [match] (again) while concussed through all of it. We don’t deserve him.”
Maguire proving his worth at United
Maguire has struck up a solid partnership with United teammate Evans in the absence of Lisandro Martinez, who is currently sidelined due to injury.
The England international even started ahead of former Real Madrid star Varane for the clash at Fulham and put in another solid showing from start to finish.
Maguire’s Old Trafford future last summer appeared quite bleak after he lost the captaincy to Bruno Fernandes and was subject to a £30m bid from West Ham.
While a move to the Hammers failed to materialise, Maguire remained at United and was praised for his professionalism, despite losing his place in the starting XI.
United manager Ten Hag has seen his faith in Maguire pay off and the former Leicester City man is truly fighting for his place at the Premier League club.
