Everton are expected to hire Manchester United academy coach Tom Curtis.
There have been wholesale changes at Manchester United since Ineos took control of football operations following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a minority stake in the club.
For example, one change led to Nick Cox departing United after nine years of service (six of which were spent as head of academy) in 2025 to join Everton as technical director.
Cox was partly responsible for helping 35 players make their senior debuts and overseeing one FA Youth Cup triumph. He was replaced by Stephen Torpey, who worked previously with Jason Wilcox at Man City.

Tom Curtis could join Nick Cox at Everton
Connections are so important in football. Think of the number of people who previously worked with Wilcox at City who are now working at United.
Cox could become another example if he can bring people from United to Everton, or any of his other former clubs, for that matter.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United academy coach Tom Curtis is expected to join Everton.
Curtis stepped in as U21s caretaker coach when Darren Fletcher temporarily took charge of the first team for two matches following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal in January.
While Adam Lawrence eventually took charge of the U21s, Curtis stepped in for four matches. He joined United in November 2024 as the head of player development for the U13s and U16s age groups.
On top of that, Curtis spent 10 years working across a variety of roles with youth players within the FA.
This means Curtis is set to become the first United employee to reunite with Cox at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Latest on Adam Lawrence and the Man Utd U21s head coach role
The same report from the MEN suggests United are still preparing to formally announce the permanent appointment of Lawrence as U21s head coach.
Lawrence’s return to United was well received, despite the fact that he left the club and joined Newcastle, where things didn’t quite go as planned.
The role as U21s head coach became available when Travis Binnion stepped up to the first-team coaching staff.
Binnion is now working alongside Michael Carrick.
