Andre Onana has opened up about the pressure of playing for Manchester United after a tough start to his career in England.
David De Gea’s contract expired this summer and Manchester United needed a new number-one goalkeeper and eventually decided to sign Andre Onana, the former Ajax and Inter Milan goalkeeper.
The Cameroon international joined the club for £47 million but had a rather poor start to his career at Old Trafford and made a number of high-profile errors against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.
Since then, however, the goalkeeper has had a mini-renaissance and looked assured and confident against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Onana on pressure of playing for United
The goalkeeper, following the last-gasp win over Fulham, spoke to NBC Sports about how he dealt with the pressure of playing for England’s biggest club.
“You have to be prepared to play for Manchester United. It is the price to pay when you’re playing for such a big club,” Onana said.
“If you don’t win, everyone is upset. That is normal. We are Manchester United. We have to try and win everything.
“For me it is good. It means you are used to winning. We have to do everything to win even if we are not in a good situation. Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, so they always have to try to win.”
Onana’s form
The questions and concerns over Onana were growing louder and louder as time went on but the goalkeeper, who has ample amounts of belief in himself, stuck to his task and now seems to be the main man.
The penalty save against FC Copenhagen may well be the moment that his United career trajectory changed and since that save, the goalkeeper has been on top form.
With Altay Bayindir in the background, it looked like Onana could have been dropped due to his poor form but the 27-year-old now looks to be back to his best between the sticks for the Red Devils.
