Christian Eriksen delivered a rather blunt response when asked about why he felt he wasn’t playing more for Manchester United this season.
Erik ten Hag, once again, turned to Christian Eriksen when the situation, and performance, were dire for Manchester United and it was the midfielder’s cross toward Harry Maguire that won the Red Devils the game.
As mentioned, this isn’t the first time the Dane has made an impact from the bench, he was brought on with United a goal down against Thomas Frank’s Brentford and was crucial in that game, too.
Now, the 31-year-old, who Paul Scholes believes should start ahead of Sofyan Amrabat, gave his version of events.

Eriksen on not starting games
Speaking to Brazilian journalist Fred Caldeira, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder gave short shrift to the interviewers’ line of questioning.
“Ask the manager why I’m starting on the bench, that’s out of my hands,” Eriksen told TNT Sports.
“But obviously I want to play as much as possible. Obviously, the manager is looking the other way, but at the moment if you win like this, it’s worth it.”
The midfielder adds security in possession that has been severely lacking for United recently and the question has become should the 31-year-old start the Manchester derby.
Eriksen’s minutes
Last season, Frenkie De Jong seemed like the club’s first-choice target and, if it wasn’t for his love of Barcelona, he may well have joined Ten Hag’s Old Trafford revolution.
This signing of the Dutchman was seen as the midfield maestro for the next decade but when the deal fell apart, United turned to Casemiro which left Eriksen, who joined on a free, the man likely to start most games further ahead of the Brazilian.
It seems unlikely that Eriksen was seen as the man who would start 38 games a season but last season he was and his minutes weren’t managed very well.
This season, however, with the signing of Mason Mount, his minutes have been managed and he looks a much better player for it so a start from the bench seems the most sensible choice this Sunday.
