Manchester United football director John Murtough believes he will be a part of the Ineos rebuild, according to reports.
John Murtough, the Manchester United football director, looked set to be leaving Old Trafford when it emerged Sir Jim Ratcliffe was closing in on a 25 per cent investment into the club.
There were reports yesterday from the Manchester Evening News that Murtough was on his way out of the club, but this had added yet another twist to the tale.
Paul Mitchell had been heavily linked with the football director role at the club but it now seems that Murtough, who has been director since 2021, will be staying on.

Murtough’s future
According to a report from The Telegraph, Murtough is expecting to be part of the Ineos rebuild once the deal is eventually ratified.
It had been hoped that the deal for Ratcliffe, 71, to buy United would be completed this week but the report goes on to say that it may now be pushed back to next week.
Ineos are still surveying the scene for sporting director candidates but it is unclear what this would mean for Murtough.
The 52-year-old United director has been under pressure for the past few months as the club’s failures in the transfer market have been compounded by their poor start to this season.
New role for Murtough
With the report stating that United are looking at new sporting director candidates, it is possible that Murtough could be moved to a new role within the side.
It is thought that Murtough has done a lot for the academy development at the club so perhaps a new role in that department would be something that United, and Ineos, would look into.
The fanbase, however, may not be happy with this decision to keep hold of Murtough if the reports turn out to be true.
Richard Arnold has already decided to leave his role at United at the end of the calendar year with Jean-Claude Blanc on the verge of joining the club.
