Man United announce exciting Old Trafford plans for crucial Athletic Club second leg clash, Bruno Fernandes approves

The second leg of the Europa League semi-final clash against Athletic Club is undeniably Manchester United’s biggest game of the season.

After Manchester United beat Athletic Club 3-0 in Spain last week, Ruben Amorim’s side have one foot in the Europa League final.

However, Amorim has urged United to stay focused despite boasting a big advantage for the Old Trafford showdown.

Inaki Williams warned United that Athletic Club can still turn the tie around, and complacency could be a big issue for the Red Devils.

In order to avoid complacency, United have announced exciting plans for an Old Trafford showpiece.

Man United will unveil Old Trafford tifo for Athletic Club clash

In the last round against Lyon, United revealed a unique tifo at Old Trafford.

It was the first time in United’s club history that a tifo was displayed at Old Trafford before a match. It seems fans can expect it to become a trend under the new ownership.

With a spot in the final up for grabs, United have announced that they will unveil another tifo in the Sir Alex Ferguson stand before kick-off on Thursday evening.

The tifo design has been kept quiet – similar to the Lyon one – but once again it has been approved by fan representatives and club captain Bruno Fernandes.

The last design displayed the words “Never gonna stop” accompanied by a collection of trophies won by United teams over the years.

Old Trafford must become a fortress again

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, Old Trafford was ofted referred to as a fortress. Impenetrable, intimidating and enough to make opposition players accept defeat before a ball was kicked.

That feeling has certainly diminished over the past decade, but tifo displays such as the one against Lyon help to get Old Trafford rocking.

Amorim has broken Old Trafford traditions this season to try and get his side playing better at home. If Ineos want to win the Premier League by 2028, then United’s home form will have to drastically improve.

That goes for every match at home – even if United find themselves 3-0 up like they will on Thursday, winning the match has to be the target.

With United’s new £2bn stadium set to be complete in 2030, it would be a shame if Old Trafford didn’t become home to a few more trophies before it is knocked down.
