Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot has been doing extra attacking practice in training, according to reports.

Diogo Dalot has regained his spot as the first choice right-back at Manchester United following Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s renaissance in the first team.

Erik ten Hag decided that the Englishman was to be the first choice in the second half of last season but during the beginning of this campaign, the former FC Porto right-back has won his place back in the starting eleven, although has frequently played on the left, amid an injury crisis.

And it has emerged that the 24-year-old has been doing extra training and it is looking like Dalot is favoured by the Dutchman and his coaching staff going into the summer window.

Dalot’s preparation

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, the Portuguese international has been taking steps to try and improve since returning to the club from AC Milan in 2021.

One aspect he is focused on is diet, having learned more about this during his loan spell in Italy. His idol and pal Cristiano Ronaldo pays particularly close attention to this.

According to the report, United now trust the defender to speak to the in-house media whenever it is required to put a player up for an interview.

On the pitch, Dalot has been practicing his long range shooting. He wants to add more goals to his game, and become one of the best full-backs in the world.

Scoring goals and providing assists can also differentiate himself from rival right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Dalot has netted twice this campaign, scoring a winner against Sheffield United and in the FA Cup against Wigan.

Dalot the first choice

As the season has progressed, the Portuguese defender has won his place back in the team and his versatility has proven to be an asset.

Luke Shaw has been injured for the majority of the season which has meant Dalot was shifted over to left-back to cover for the Englishman’s absence.

He has proven to be a reliable option for the Red Devils and it is conceivable that Wan-Bissaka could now be the man to leave the club in the summer despite a one-year contract extension.
