Man United academy star sold by Erik ten Hag is finally fulfilling potential with crucial goal in title race

Manchester United fans have grown familiar with players improving as soon as they leave Old Trafford.

It has been a frustrating trend for years now, and it has shown no signs of slowing down this season.

Antony is thriving at Real Betis and Marcus Rashford looks happy at Aston Villa after both wingers left Manchester United on loan this season.

Scott McTominay has become a Napoli ‘idol’ after being deemed not good enough under Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman also decided to part ways with academy star Hannibal Mejbri, and he is now in great form for title-chasing Burnley.

Hannibal Mejbri scores crucial goal in Burnley title race

Burnley boss Scott Parker has been delighted by Mejbri since he joined the Championship side in the summer.

The Clarets are currently joint-first in the Championship with Leeds United, chasing the title and promotion back to the Premier League.

The 22-year-old has become a key player for Burnley this season and his confidence is clearly high – Mejbri claimed he’s better than Chris Rigg, who is a target for Ruben Amorim.

Hannibal Mejbri’s confidence would have grown even more after he scored his first goal for Burnley on Friday in a 2-1 win over Norwich City.

Mejbri, who spent five years with United between 2019 and 2024, scored the opener 14 minutes in which helped Burnley to their 24th win of the campaign.

Hannibal Mejbri earns Team of the Week spot

Mejbri was tipped to follow in Paul Pogba’s footsteps at United, but it never quite worked out for him at Old Trafford.

He could soon line up against the Red Devils if his Burnley side can achieve promotion back to the top-flight.

Mejbri’s performances suggest he is now good enough to be a regular in the Premier League. His efforts against Norwich earned him a spot in the Championship Team of the Week.

United have a buyback clause for Mejbri if Amorim and Ineos ever wanted to bring him back to Old Trafford. Additionally, there is a 50% sell-on clause if any other team decides to poach him from Burnley.
