Harry Maguire has talked up his relationship with Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer oversaw another big result on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Manchester City.

The Norwegian has won all three meetings with City at the Etihad Stadium and his record against Pep Guardiola is impressive.

Maguire told UEFA’s website he feels Solskjaer is doing a great job and offered an insight into a different side to his character.

[Me and Ole Gunnar Solskjær] have a great relationship,” said Maguire.

“I feel he’s done brilliantly – he’s cool, calm, but he’s also got the side of him where he can turn when he needs to and when the players need a little telling-off. We’re close.

“We speak a lot before training, before games. I give my ideas to him and how I feel the group is and the mentality of the group and what we can improve on and where we can go as a club, and he’s exactly the same.

“I feel so lucky to be captain of this club. It’s a huge honour. I’m doing everything I can to be a successful captain. I demand a lot. I’m loud around the place, I’m loud around the dressing room.”

Solskjaer cuts a jovial character on the touchline but his nickname in his playing days was the baby faced assassin – for good reason.

You don’t reach the heights Solskjaer has reached without having a bit more about you.

United’s players sometimes need a not to gentle reminder about complacency and consistency.

It seems like Maguire and Solskjaer are intent on raising standards and keeping them high – which is what United will need at the business end of the season with trophies on the line.
