Luke Shaw talks up reported Manchester United target Jude Bellingham

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw says Jude Bellingham is the player in the England squad who excites him the most.

Bellingham is gearing up for his first World Cup and could well be part of England’s first choice midfield alongside Declan Rice.

Earlier this month, it was reported by The Mirror that Bellingham is United’s top target for the summer transfer window in 2023.

And in an interview with the Lions’ Den on YouTube, Shaw made it clear just how good he thinks Borussia Dortmund man Bellingham is.

In answer to the question, Shaw said: “I think the one for me is who I have been most surprised about is when he first got involved, was Jude.

“He’s so young now but the talent he possesses is unbelievable, he is unbelievable. He can do everything in that middle; he can drive with the ball, he’s aggressive, he is unbelievable.

“Over the past couple of years being in the squad with him, he has always had the talent, but he is starting to gain the experience and he’s becoming more into a man.

“He’s captaining his club and the steps his taking are leading him in the right direction. He’s an unbelievable player and will be a very big part of this England squad and the success we want to have in the coming years.”

United signed experienced midfielders in Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the summer, but it has recently been reported they will release Fred at the end of the season.

That makes space in the midfield ranks and also indicates Erik ten Hag’s desire to upgrade standards across the board.

A longer term solution is needed and Bellingham is the top pick for pretty much every club around Europe who can afford him.

To even be in the conversation, United need to qualify for the Champions League, but even then they would only have an outside chance of signing Bellingham.

Jadon Sancho went from Dortmund to United and has gone from the Euro 2020 squad to excluded from the World Cup, which is something Bellingham would also be wary of when weighing up whether to move to Old Trafford.
