Patrick Dorgu became the third Dane in the Manchester United dressing room when he joined from Lecce in January.

The left-back made his first appearance for Manchester United against Leicester City in the FA Cup last week, starting on the right flank.

United did enough to reach the fifth round but Patrick Dorgu only lasted 45 minutes on the pitch before being replaced by Alejandro Garnacho at half-time.

A solid showing from the 20-year-old provided plenty of appetite for United fans as they watched the Denmark international make runs up and down the right flank.

Dorgu was keen to move the ball forward whenever the chance arose and he used his speed to hurt the Foxes in wide areas.

Jan Molby excited by Patrick Dorgu transfer

Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby believes Dorgu will prove to be a success at Old Trafford.

Dorgu arrives at United with a £25 million price tag following his transfer from Lecce.

However, the Serie A side could be owed an additional £4m in performance-related add-ons.

While United’s fee for Dorgu was not insignificant, Molby has hailed the club’s recruitment team for getting the deal across the line.

Molby, who won three league titles and the FA Cup twice at Liverpool, believes Dorgu will be a hit in the Premier League.

Speaking to Tipsbladet, Molby said: “We have to take off the hat for we have three Danes in one of the world’s biggest football clubs. It’s incredible, right?

“As a Dane, it is incredibly exciting with Dorgu in Manchester United. I really like his profile and the way Manchester United have started buying players.

“Dorgu has also played right in Lecce so he can play both seats. One of the most important things for Amorim has been to control these wingbacks, so Dorgu really gets a key role on this Manchester United team.”

What next for Patrick Dorgu?

After a full week of training with United’s first-team, Dorgu will be excited to perform in front of the club’s faithful support again when the Reds travel to Tottenham on Sunday.

It remains to be seen which flank Dorgu will operate on, after starting on the right against Leicester, despite the left being his preferred flank.

This shows that the Dane is versatile and that will help Ruben Amorim moving forward.

The United head coach wants players who can play multiple roles, which is why they pursued a deal for Dorgu in January.
