Argentina’s World Cup campaign is showing no signs of slowing down, and Lisandro Martinez is a big part of it.

Following a 3-0 win against Algeria, courtesy of a Lionel Messi hat-trick, Argentina beat Austria with another two goals from Messi.

It also cemented consecutive clean sheets for Lisandro Martinez, who flourished against Austria after a similarly good performance against Algeria.

Martinez reacted to his country’s latest win, which seals qualification for the next round. He was ‘lost for words’ over one thing.

Lisandro Martinez reacts to Argentina’s win

Martinez is the emotional backbone of the side as much as he’s an asset with his playing ability.

As Cristian Romero struggles with injuries and uncertainty over his club future, Martinez has found form at the perfect time to guide Argentina.

After the 2-0 win against Austria, Martinez posted a rallying cry on his Instagram, writing, “Another step forward. We fought together and achieved a huge victory. Go Argentina!!”

The likes of Emi Martinez and Giuliano Simeone commented, while Bruno Fernandes liked the post.

Martinez was full of praise for Messi after the game, saying he is “lost for words” over what he continues to do, and that there’s nobody equal in football.

He said: “Honestly, there are no words – all we can do is enjoy it. There’s no point comparing him to anyone else because he’s in a league of his own; he stands alone at the top.

“All we can do is enjoy it, enjoy it. I’m lost for words; I can’t find the words. I just feel such immense joy at having him here day in, day out, and that he’s Argentine. We really must appreciate him.”

Having already qualified for the next stage, Argentina might opt to rotate for what is the easiest fixture on paper, against Jordan, but in current form, they’d want to continue this momentum.
