Argentine media react to Lisandro Martinez vs Austria
Martinez’s match stats vs Austria were impressive, and he played the full 90 minutes in Dallas and contributed to another clean sheet.
Argentine outlet TYC Sports gave Lisandro Martinez an 8/10 rating, second only to Messi.
They wrote: “Once again, the best defender and one of the best on the team. This kid’s anticipation is phenomenal.
“Plus, crystal-clear vision when playing out from the back, even for long passes, like the one that put Nicolas Gonzalez through on goal. A fantastic game from the center-back, formidable in the tackle and the dirty play. A butcher who’ll kill you on the pitch and is a sweetheart off it.”
Clarin gave Martinez a 6/10 rating but were also full of praise for the United star:
“Another solid performance from Licha, showing complete concentration. He held his own playing in the air against the towering Michael Gregoritsch, who is 18 centimeters taller than him.”

Lisandro Martinez contributes to Argentina record
Martinez has played every minute of Argentina’s World Cup defence so far, and he has helped to keep back-to-back clean sheets.
Mexico and Spain are the only other nations in the tournament who have played twice and are yet to concede a goal.
But even more impressively, the xG Philosophy points out on X that Argentina have conceded 0.00 expected goals on target.
Essentially, Martinez and Co. have limited opponents to not even attempting a shot on their goal, never mind conceding.
Out of all 14 Manchester United players at the 2026 World Cup, Martinez will be growing in confidence that he could go and win the competition again.
